Island News is published in part by Island Press, a division Hearst Magazines, Inc. The first issue was dated Nov. 24, 1931. The title changed to the Stroller’s Weekly, later revised to become the Island News Professional, and Douglas Island News, later edited by H. B. Selby & E. S. Stevens. The name was in use until March 3, 1933, when the last edition was published.

Island News Professional brought to Alaska numerous new writers who wrote articles that dealt with business in the islands and adjacent areas. Its pages also contained news and travel columns and a sports section that was newly added and a mining report. an article about the Kenai Fjords National Park, an island weather report, a new feature story on the Kenai Wildlife Park, a cultural calendar and a wildlife report and a mining report. A local obituary was an important addition. The obituaries were alphabetically listed under each city in this issue. This helped readers to find the correct information faster. Island News Professional was primarily an issue of the magazine, but it also included a few business-oriented pages. The pages were split into two sections The Commercial Business section, which dealt with the business owners and their companies as well as the Employment and Training section, which was designed to keep people informed of local job openings. The section for businesses was designed to provide information on job openings and advertisements. The employment section featured an ad in the classified section that listed all kinds of jobs available that included construction, fishing, general contractoring, landscaping, cleaning and all other trades. There are also listings of employers looking for workers and a phone directory with the names and numbers of businesses.

Island News Digest published the Kenai Peninsula News, a periodical that included local content. It was primarily focused on the Kenai Peninsula and reported on everything from tourism and travel to arts and culture. The Kenai Digest was completely consumer-oriented, unlike the Peninsula News which was primarily business-oriented. It featured information on family activities, education and culture and local government.

Other topics included health, culture, education, religion, labor, technology, business owners, and television and radio production. As expected, there was plenty of news related to the Peninsula and Kenai Peninsula area. Many people were proud in having a knowledgeable and objective business news source. The insightful reports that Peninsula News provided were appreciated by many business owners as well as others.

Island News publishes a periodical, but it also has its own website. The site contains an online newsletter, essays, articles as well as news stories and research materials.
