A catalytic convertor is a small exhaust emission control device that converts exhaust gas and other pollutants from an engine to less-polluting pollutants in order to catalyze the oxygen reduction reaction. Palladium is not as effective at removing pollutants as platinum, but it is more common than platinum. A new catalytic converter is required for your car.
